Three girls having fun in between matches

Youth Development Phase

Helping girls aged 11 upwards to progress

At this age group, the format of football adopts standard Association Football rules.

However, to help the step between Mini Soccer and Youth football, the format is initially 9v9 with adapted pitch and goal sizes.

From there, girls will progress to standard 11v11 football. There isn't a specific age for them to make this transition - it's usually based on what member clubs and leagues decide at their AGM. However, the recommended age for them to make the step up to 11v11 is at U13 level.

There are six main affiliated Youth leagues for girls in Lancashire:

Poulton and District Primary League
Bolton, Bury & District Football League
East Lancashire Football Alliance
Wigan & District Youth League
Lancaster & Morecambe Service to Youth League
North West Girls Super League
